5% of Japanese, and 7% of American people are depressed. WHO was leading a campaign against depression couple years ago. Depression is of course the leading cause of suicide, so we want to avoid it if there is any effective prevention.
How about coffee?
Coffee = caffeine = bad guys? Coffee nowadays tends to vindicate its bad reputation with its anti-oxidant power. There are interesting research results on coffee and depression / suicide risk.
Those who drink two cups of coffee every day have a 50% lower risk of suicide than those who do not.

So, if you drink more, will you be free from suicide?
A study is conducted with 100,000 people at Kaiser Permanente in the United States, they found the suicide risk decreases as the coffee intake increases. Suicide risk for those who drank six cups a day is 80% lower than those who did not drink. Though, in this case, you become sick with too much caffeine before you commit suicide, maybe.

The same results were not obtained with tea.
I think the difference probably is that coffee contains many antioxidants. So if you have green tea that has strong antioxidant such as catechin, it might get pretty close numbers.
So, drinking coffee makes you feel better, and it also helps to prevent depression and even suicide. I found another reason for enjoying coffee every morning.
However, if you have six or more cups, then the risk of suicide seems to increase, so drink with moderation. Adding sugar, especially artificial sweeteners with aspartame, of course increases the risk of depression. Also remember you will have the negative effect of (cow) milk if you drink a large cup of latte every day.
Also, each individual is different, some are tolerant for acidity, or caffeine and coffee also depends on the quality and the way of drinking of course, so needless to say, pay attention to the quality as well.
