When I went to public hot spring bath in Japan last year, I saw many more men with a fat belly than in a past.  Also I noticed those especially the ones with fat belly are quite often with enlarged breasts like that of lady’s. They look like naked Santa with boobs taking a bath.  

Perhaps you have never heard of “Gynecomastia”, But you might have heard “Men boobs”?

Simply put, this is a man physically been feminized and their breasts getting developed to be ready for lactation. 

Surprisingly, this means it is not just by fat but by mammary glands. 

Most of the medical sites say It is caused by hormone imbalance. It is due to an increased Estrogen level in men causes decrease in male hormone testosterone. Mayo clinic site suggests all the possible cause of this men boobs including implication with prescribed medicine, and variety of medical treatments and diseases including cancer, kidney and liver failure, and aging. 

This “Cause” list is robust and could be anything that causes imbalance of the hormone. Therefore conventional medicine has not much cure for its root cause other than medications to reduce estrogen and cosmetic surgery for reducing the swell.

This men boobs phenomena is increasing dramatically in the US and creates booming of the men’s breast surgery to treat this symptom. And Mayo Clinic site did not satisfy a Health Coach detective. 

But here is one explanation that I thought was very convincing.  

According to Dr. William Davis, author of Wheat Belly, One reason is deeply related to their consumption of carbohydrate, mainly wheat. Why? Because wheat consumption from bread, pasta, pizza, and millions of wheat containing food creates insulin resistance due to its high glycemic nature, grows visceral fat inside men’s belly. Now research found visceral fat decreases testosterone and increase estrogen levels. Thus it grows his boobs. 

When you see your partner started growing his boobs, ironically giving him a first bra, consider giving a wheat free diet book with it.
