Continuing from our previous discussion, the exercise I’d like to share this time is a short version of Dao Yin routine I do every morning for a head. Dao Yin, developed around 200 AD by Hua Tuo, a Daoist physician renowned as the creator of the well-known Japanese “Otoso” (medicated sake), was utilized by him to address various bodily discomforts and ailments.

Dao Yin primarily focuses on purging toxins from the body, facilitating the smooth flow of bodily fluids, and maintaining an internal environment that allows the human body to function optimally.
In this video, I’ll specifically showcase the movements targeting the head from my daily Dao Yin routine, taking about 7 to 8 minutes. Shorter version is possible by excluding focusing after each movement is possible.
This exercise enhances scalp health and brain blood circulation, resulting in a rejuvenated mind, heightened mental agility, and a clear-headed feeling. Additionally, it serves as a preventative measure against conditions like dementia, forgetfulness, hair loss, and baldness.
The acupoint Baihui, situated at the top of the head, is a delicate point connected to the pineal gland in the brain. While the pineal gland physiologically secretes melatonin, in Daoism and esoteric Buddhism, it’s considered the source of supernatural abilities. Stimulating this point is believed to activate the pineal gland’s function, awakening dormant capabilities.
When applying pressure to Baihui, you may experience a sensation as if energy is flowing downward in the head. Once you sense this, just try to experience it without conscious thought.
Additional points to note:
- Direct your awareness to the exercised area, feeling the sensations for enhanced effectiveness.
- The number of repetitions doesn’t need to be rigid; an approximate count suffices.
- Avoid applying excessive force; perform the exercise with a comfortable level of effort.
Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences after trying the exercise.
