“Back to Strength” : Your Guide to a Resilient and Healthy Spine – Prologue

Do you know the top two health complaints for the Japanese population?

The number one concern is shoulder stiffness, and the second is lower back pain.

Interestingly, for women, shoulder stiffness takes the top spot, while for men, lower back pain is the primary concern.

I, too, have had a harrowing experience with lower back issues.

Not mine, just for a general idea

I suffered from a severe herniated disc. It all began while I was playing soccer. Initially, I sensed something was amiss after stomping my foot on a ground so hard, but it was just a minor discomfort. However, the pain persisted and grew excruciating with time. I couldn’t even put on my shoes, and brushing my teeth in the morning was accompanied by agonizing cries. My daily commute to work in my car on the freeway forced frequent breaks every 15 minutes or so.

I sought medical attention and, after an MRI, it was revealed that the disc between L5 and S1 had severely ruptured.

The hospital informed me that there was no definitive treatment and even suggested that I might have to live with the condition for the rest of my life. They stated that the disc wouldn’t regenerate, and the only options offered were steroid injections for pain relief or surgery.

Having always been averse to medication and hospitals, I resolved to initially explore my body’s natural healing capabilities and committed to refusing all the options offered by conventional hospitals.

At one point, the pain became unbearable, severely impacting my daily life. I even considered surgery and consulted with a surgeon.

Upon reviewing my MRI, the surgeon exclaimed, “Your disc has ruptured and is scattered. It’s astonishing that you’re able to stand and walk quite casually,” with a surprised expression.

Without resorting to medication, I sought the help of physical therapists and chiropractors, but neither approach yielded significant results, and my condition frequently worsened. Consequently, I began to explore alternative therapies. This lead me to take Health Coach Program to obtain extensive knowledge to conquer this severe spine issue.

This series is based on my journey to heal my herniated disc.

After trying various approaches, I achieved approximately 50% recovery after six months, 75% after a year, and nearly 95% recovery within an additional six months. I even regained the ability to play baseball, soccer, and mountain bike from not being able to wear socks. The pain I experienced due to stress, cold weather, or strenuous exercise was considerably milder compared to the initial couple months.

With this experience in mind, I aim to share my knowledge and ideas for creating “the healthiest lower back,” preventing lower back pain, and managing it if you’re already afflicted. In the subsequent five parts, I will provide this information.

For those with weak lower backs or those grappling with lumbar strain or herniated discs, please consider this as a valuable resource. I won’t offer information that’s readily available online. Instead, I’ll share cutting-edge insights I acquired from leading physicians and effective methods based on my unique experiences.
